30. The food + safety + belonging equation with Ali Shapiro

Learning why our relationship with food and wanting to be healthy does not have to rely on willpower alone + free masterclass!
2

In this episode we are joined by Ali Shapiro, my friend, mentor and the creator of Truce with Food, a program that changed my entire life in 2017. I am certified in her Truce Coaching methods and she has been a supervisor of my coaching for the last two years. A soul sister and true kindred spirit, Ali not only healed her own health challenges including acne, IBS, depression and more after battling cancer as a teen, but she even went on to transcend an infertility diagnosis to conceive and birth her son Eça in 2019. Ali’s work is unique in that she’s asking, “Why does falling off track with your healthy eating make sense?”. In her work, eating self-sabotage is actually about self-protection.

In this episode we talk about why willpower isn’t always enough to change our relationships with food, and why falling off track makes so much sense. Using the TAIL acronym we discuss the triggers that can often find us in the emotional eating pattern. Understanding that our relationship with food is rooted in emotional safety can help us understand these patterns even more deeply.

Ali and I also discuss her upcoming free masterclass Untangle Your Food Triggers: Catch Yourself Before You Fall Off Track masterclass, where Ali will guide you through a coaching exercise that’ll enable you to uncover what’s really going on underneath your emotional eating struggles. You’ll walk away with a tangible tool you can apply next time you find yourself wondering “Why Am I Eating This Now?”.

The masterclass will be on Tuesday, September 10 from 12 - 1:15 pm EST (and you know I’ll be there too!)

You’ll learn:

  • What triggers you to fight food (hint: why it makes sense)

  • The 4 emotional triggers that bring on food self-sabotage, even when you’re feeling great (if you’re familiar with the the often repeated H-A-L-T acronym, you’ll learn what’s missing in that framework)

And how to interrupt the self-sabotage cycle while traveling, at parties, restaurants, or other social situations.

This is also a sneak peak at Ali’s upcoming  Why Am I Eating This Now? (WAIETN) Live group program that opens for registration next week too. She generously gifted my community $100 off by entering coupon code NICOLE at check-out. Make sure to use that if you do decide to sign-up for the WAIETN group program.

I will be leading small group coaching in this program so you get the benefit of Ali’s wisdom and an opportunity to work with me in a small group setting.

Ali has 18 years of experience working with clients 1:1 and in group programs. She provides an efficient, evidence-based, and client-proven path forward (and if you’re checking credentials, she also have an Ivy League Masters degree in behavioral change and coaching 😉). Her work and clients unique success has been showcased in well + Good, mindbodygreen, Prevention, Women’s Health and Forbes, as well as industry leading podcasts Being Boss, Tell Me Something True, and Food Heaven, and now the Soulbloom podcast *woo*!
